The School of Nursing (SON) was established in 1989 through collaboration between the Nursing Education Department of the then Muhimbili Medical Centre in Tanzania, and the Dalhousie University School of Nursing, in Canada. The School runs five Bachelor of Science degree programmes including Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BScN - direct and equivalent truck), Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSc. Midwifery – direct and equivalent truck) and the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Management (BScN Management - Equivalent truck). The School also runs two Master’s of Science degree programs in Critical care and mental health. In recent years the School started enrolling students at the doctoral level, a huge milestone in advancing the profession in Africa and the world at large.
